Xiaomi has launched an investigation after a Redmi Note 4 smartphone exploded in the pocket of a user in Ravulapalem in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district. The owner of the smartphone, Bhavana Suryakiran reportedly suffered serious injuries due to the explosion. The smartphone company said it has contacted Suryakiran and is investigating the matter.
Sakshi.com, a Telugu news website was the first to report that a Redmi Note 4 exploded in the pocket of owner Bhavana Suryakiran, due to which he suffered serious injuries. This incident occurred when he was riding his bike.
“We take such matters seriously as customer safety is of utmost importance for Xiaomi. All of our devices go through stringent quality tests,” a Xiaomi spokesperson said.
Suryakiran bought the smartphone from Flipkart 20 days ago. He added that he will move the court against Xiaomi for selling a ‘defective’ unit and seeking compensation for injuries sustained.
Launched in India earlier this year, the Redmi Note 4 has been a sleeper hit success for the company, selling one million units in record time. Xiaomi said last week it had sold more than five million units of the Redmi Note 4 smartphone in the country in six months since debuting here.
“All of our devices go through stringent quality tests. We have been able to establish contact with the customer and are in the process of procuring the damaged product to carefully investigate the case.”
The company has launched a probe into this matter and very soon results would be out. Few days back too, a video was circulated online which showed a Redmi Note 4 catching fire, but later it was realized that it was fake. There are chances of these reports being fake too; better to wait for the investigation report rather than jumping to conclusions and blaming the company.
